Robert Mondavi Selections: Revisiting the 2006 vintage
We recently had the opportunity to re-taste Robert Mondavi’s 2006 vintage wines, which we originally tasted in 2008. Two years in the bottle can often help big wines settle down and improve their flavors and soften their tannins. That is certainly the case here. While the 2006 vintage initially looked unpromising because of extended rains and delays in flowering, it ultimately allowed for long hang time, slow ripening and excellent fruit quality. These wines, now four years old, are each stunning examples of the high quality wines produced in 2006, which in our view were somewhat stronger than 2005 and have good aging potential. The 2007 Fumé Blanc Reserve To Kalon Vineyard, is also reviewed here. These wines are all fine examples of the superb winemaking at the Robert Mondavi Winery.
Robert Mondavi Winery 2006 Pinot Noir Reserve Los Carneros ($60) 91
This Pinot Noir Reserve displays a medium-light garnet ruby color and an attractive light red cherry and cranberry nose with touches of cola, leather and earthy spice. It has a medium weight palate with prominent vanilla, toasty oak, and dark red fruit flavors. The finish is long with good acidity and lingering vanilla and ripe cherry flavors.
Robert Mondavi Winery 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley ($28) 89
The dark ruby Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley exhibits ripe raspberry and black currant fruit on the nose with a light touch of cedar. It is velvety smooth on the attack and offers ripe black currant fruit on the palate. It is showing soft round tannins and excellent balance presently and will certainly last for a decade or more.

Wine 'Doggy Bag' Regulations in West Virginia
Section 60-8-3, rule 175 CSR 4, paragraph 6.15 states, among other requirements, that the restaurant must use a one-time tamper resistant bag to secure the partially consumed wine (maximum two bottles) prior to the wine going off the premises.
